Eucalyptus trees shed their bark all over the place... this has something to do with their reproductive cycle. According to Museum Victoria (which disagrees with what the tour guide said!), rapid bush fires destroy most of the vegetation in the forest, but not the seeds from the tree; these seeds are then released in massive quantities after the fire and have enough light and space to grow.
