  First of a billion rainforest pictures... I'm only captioning the ones that had some sort of a story attached.   See? I told you, ferns ferns everywhere... Rainforest - Maits Rest The vegetation is pretty dense, so the forest is rather dark. Rainforest - Maits Rest Small man, or big tree? Tall, dead tree Yes, that IS a tree-trunk, and no, I did not go inside. (Don't let Christian convince you it was because of a fear of wombats - it just didn't seem wise at the time :)  
 

 
  Rainforest - Maits Rest Rainforest - Maits Rest Rainforest - Maits Rest Eucalyptus trees shed their bark all over the place... this has something to do with their reproductive cycle. According to Museum Victoria (which disagrees with what the tour guide said!), rapid bush fires destroy most of the vegetation in the forest, but not the seeds from the tree; these seeds are then released in massive quantities after the fire and have enough light and space to grow.   The sky, through dense foliage More big ferns next to the bridge Rainforest - Maits Rest Another hollow tree Rainforest - Maits Rest Rainforest - Maits Rest The hole in the tree in this blurry picture probably came from another tree that was dead on the floor and rotted away. The live tree above it just grew around the dead tree before it rotted.  
 

 
  Ferns everywhere! A tree directly across from the previous tree with a big hole in its bottom; this tree seems to have grown over the same rotting tree. More dense foliage Mmmmm... orange and fuzzy Strange growths stick out of everywthing... Rainforest - Maits Rest Rainforest - Maits Rest
