Florida, Spring Break 2001

Just after turning in my 565 assignment. To the airport, Jeeves!
WARNING: This is what Jens Palsberg can do to you!
Julie, on the plane. I often wonder how many people realize where that gesture comes from... Me, anticipating liftoff to the Land of the Big Ears...
That's DisneyWorld, to the uninitiated (well, ok, to anyone who isn't Julie or me)
Finally at our destination... Julie enjoys the hallucinatory quality of our room at the Caribbean Resort Yesssssssss!!!! I look like Hell, but trust me, I'm happy in this picture. Breakfast, our first morning... Julie wisely selects the mouse-flavored waffles. I had sworn, after such a horrible few months of grad school, that I was going to avoid being an adult and wear mouse ears at all times. Here we see me trying to keep my promise.

Julie and Krista after a relaxing morning of massages and spa. Mmmmmm... This is the chapel where Julie got married a few years ago. No, she did not wear mouse ears. The polynesian resort, as seen from the wedding chapel. Er... I think this picture says enough :) Cheesy physics joke in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom. Note that the ears remain. The real Julie! Cinderella's castle

Nope, the ears are still there. Me, in front of the Haunted Mansion Julie, in her element Thunder Mountain Railroad... that's right, I got Julie to go on a coaster! Ok, so I was a little tired... One of the nice things of going down there after having seen nothing but the inside of the CS building for months were the beautiful colors of the plants and trees. Julie decides Krista has had a bit too much mousing around and takes the ears for herself. The tired bus ride home for the day. Krista, in turn, steals Julie's hat, which has mouse ears on it, so it's close enough. The tired bus ride home for the day.

Welcome to Cabana Chat! Julie enjoys a nice cold strawberry daiquiri. Don't disturb me... I'm having quality time with my pina colada. Kid chasing a duck around the tables We got home to our... er... florid room to find that the housekeeping service does weird origami with your washcloths. Two little doves awaited us... Julie (left) and I take a self-portrait. The strange things in our hair are these strange hair wraps we had done while relaxing at the cabana. There is a song that accompanies this picture, but you'll never hear it :) Ganamos!!!!!! Julie in a hammock by the beach. Me, exhausted, in a hammock on the beach by our hotel.

Suddently seized by thoughts of Lambda calculus, a disturbing fit interrupts my peaceful reverie. This picture is revenge for the fence incident. I loooooove you, Julie ;) *flee* Watch as I turn this magic dove into a washrag! The ears reappear. Me on the balcony outside our room. Julie, after a day of riding Winnie the Pooh rides, sits down to a meal MGM Studios Tour - the water tour serves as proof that we are indeed at "The Ears" Ok, so I'm the only person in the world who liked The 13th Warrior. Julie thinks it has something to do with my obsession with the Norse God Thor...

Julie shows her true heavy-metal-groupie nature with this fine (temporary) tattoo. In anticipation of my St. Patrick's Day history, I chose a shamrock and this lovely face to match. In front of the Rock'n'Roller Coaster ride, which, yes, I DID get Julie to go on! I'm the blurry one playing air guitar next to the left of the stroller lady. Proof that Julie can be enticed to ride on a serious roller coaster!!! (What the Hell is that guy in front doing??) Dinner, after a day of coasters and Muppets (yay Muppets!) The lake, at Epcot.
Julie, sadly, had to go home for a dog emergency. So Krista toured Epcot and took pictures of pretty things.
The Victorian garden outside of the O' Canada exhibit at Epcot.

The monorail and a play fountain at Epcot. If you think I'm weird, check out the lady in the corner of the picture. I did NOT intend to include her ;) Picture taken inside Innovations Epcot - basically a commercial exhibit intended to show how cool the future would be. The future, however, seems to be creeping up on them... An odd show about aliens on stilts. More weird alien stiltwalkers. This fountain does a sort of water sculpture in time to music - it's really neat Pretty flamingoes. More color than the CS building shall ever see. The lake at Epcot again

I just liked this funky tree :) Proof that I behaved myself on St. Patrick's day, even without Julie to protect me from myself :) Entryway to the registration area for the resort we stayed at. Fountain on the grounds of the resort The Caribbean Beach resort - much as I hate places that pretend to be something they're not (i.e. in the Caribbean or Europe or Botswana), I must admit the Disney people do a nice job of creating a fun atmosphere. Pretty flowers - I think I was trying to capture the color of the trip before returning to the evils of type inference. The last day was pretty dark and gloomy, but I was determined to relax until I had to leave for my plane...

Even the birds are colorful... I liked these little red-orange flowers, but couldn't get close enough to take a decent picture. Bridge over the lake at the resort This picture was really taken to show the way the trees and greenery cross over the walkway in the background, but you can barely see it A picnic area at the Caribbean resort. Again, it just looked pleasing I have no idea what this tree is called, but it reminds me of bottle brushes.. It's probably called a BottleBrush tree or something ;) Relaxing on the beach

A lonesome gull 100% Lambda- Free! More lazing about, with the resort shops in the background A pretty walk... This is my favorite picture from the trip. A walkway on the resort grounds. Kudzu, kudzu, and more kudzu! Just like Clemson... mmm Krista returns to the airport, rested, happy, and full of Muppets.
