Bennett/Grothoff (Second!) Wedding - 23 July 2005 - Chapel of the Good Shepherd, West Lafayette, Indiana

Front of the church, from the choir loft, before the ceremony. Closeup of the altar. The whole altar. Mom baked a set of lovely cakes for the wedding, but the Indiana heat got to the delicious Astoria frosting, so Mom does some touching up before the wedding starts. The completed cake table - Mom did a fantastic job of making it look pretty!!! Another closeup of the cake. Each layer was a different kind of cake. The whole food setup, ready for the reception (minus the Indian food, which was slow to arrive...)

I don't particularly like the picture, but here's the grinning bride before the ceremony :) My best man (Krzysztof) and Christian's maid (actually matron) of honor (Gergana) share a laugh with Alberto and Conni before we begin. Brita and Makiko! Xiaowei's husband joins Xiaowei and Keiko in front of the camera. Ben, Florian, and I chat before the ceremony. I look like a dork in the picture with my mom. Sorry, Mom :) Dad and I wait for the picture to be taken as Dad tells Mom to stop directing the pose.

Dad's still my best buddy. Dennis and Petra! Our guitarist and my wonderful brother, Patrick, sings to guests before the ceremony starts. Patrick. Christian waits for the bride to arrive. Father Peter, who performed an absolutely wonderful ceremony. It made both of us very happy. The maid of honor tries to escape the camera! Go, Gergana, go!

My dad brings me down the aisle to give me away. Dad and I share a little laugh on the way down to the altar. Bad picture of everything else, great picture of my hair. :) Krzysztof and my father move into their designated positions for my father to give me away. My father gives me away, and Christian, mercifully, does not carry out his plan to ask my father if he's SURE he wants to do that... ;) We all smile. This is fun. After the rings are blessed (since we're already married), Christian puts the ring on my finger as our witnesses look on.

Christian recites his vows. In German. This time, he does not refer to the "Heiliges Gespenst". Thankfully. Smartass. I give Christian his ring. This is where I promised a bunch of stuff, mainly relating to the care and maintenance of evil bearded Germans. NOT sleeping. Just like I wasn't sleeping in the last ceremony. Honest. I was just smiling! I'm not sure if I was exchanging the peace with Christian, or trying to arm-wrestle him. Gah. Awwww :) Man and wife leave the chapel, only wife has forgotten her bouquet with the best man and reaches back ungracefully to retrieve it.

LaQuisha, Mom and Patrick in the foreground, as Karen entertains my students in the background. "Yesssssss!" Krzysztof and Alberto gave us the best wedding present you can give to a geek - hardware! Woo hoo! (You guys should just be aware that it's being put to excellent use :) We examine and rave about geek toys. And now that we have acheived geekage, for my next trick, I will attempt levitation. Gergana, Christian, Me, and Krzysztof. Another shot of the wedding party. Christian and I with my parents. Dad fixes his boutonniere. I am apparently shocked by something.

Some sort of naughtiness was going on here. And I know exactly what I was asking right here, but I will not mention it on my web page. :) The family silliness continues. Enough pictures of us already... Patrick and I share a hug after the ceremony. Patrick wins the "Good Sport" award for the whole shebang! No family resemblance at all. Really. *cough* Patrick and I.

Christian, Mike and I toast as Conni looks on. Blissfully happy. Seriously. We love each other THIS much. Christian begins to wonder if he needs something stronger than water in that cup. My fantastic students (and Xiaowei's husband!). I was so honored that they came - these ladies are absolutely fantastic people! Cake-cutting time. Whee! We try to gingerly cut the red-devil cake without knocking it off of its stand. Yiiikes. One cut down. We attempt the second.

Ok, so that one's making my Mom a little nervous and she has to help us out. Careful, careful... Ah, success! And now... the foolish feeding pictures... I don't exactly trust the guy with the cake, there... Fortunately, he's careful :) What an undignified picture... :) I attempt to get my revenge. Christian attempts to eat my hand.

Fingers intact! We agree it's pretty darned good cake. Cake ritual completed, the upper tiers are moved to the table to prevent catastrophe. Reception. Ronnie and Pete talk in the foreground, and David, LaQuisha (hidden) and Karen mingle in the background. Reception, as the Indian food finally arrives... Karen is clearly astonished by something here... Reception - Florian and Blake in the foreground at left, Gergana in the foreground on the right, and Eirinn, Patrick, Krzysztof, Alberto and I chat in the background. I really do wonder what Florian and Blake were discussing here... ;)

The food arrives. Florian and Blake shun the food. I suspect this was an attempt by my father to surreptitiously photograph Patrick. If you look very carefully at this picture, you'll see that my brother is grinning in the middle of it. See, my brother told my father to stop taking pictures of him. Thus, my father attempted to take as many as possible... Florian and Blake seem to have gotten caught in the crossfire repeatedly. :) Brita chats with Conni in the background and Christian and Dennis talk geek up front. And the Indian food is being set up! Patrick, charming rogue musician. Me with Keiko, Makiko and Xiaowei. These three women were in my American Culture class at the ESOL school, and are absolutely brilliant, wonderful people. They taught me a lot! They're also terrific fun. Keiko takes over the camera from Xiaowei's husband for another shot.

Just so you all know, LaQuisha is my hero! LaQuisha and Karen, chatting about topics unknown. Some of my favorite former members of the S3 lab - Christian, Dennis and Krzysztof.
